On Wednesday, March 28th 2012 Young for Red held its first event. We created comfort kits and cooked out in the East Georgia Red Cross chapter parking lot. The turnout was amazing. We had over 50+ people come out to show support to our group.A wide range of people came to show their support and this would not have been possible without help from the community. Many comfort kits were able to be made. We would like to thank the Athens food bank for helping us acquire supplies from CVS and PODS for helping us store the items we needed. Personal hygiene items are hugely needed (imagine racing out of a fire in the middle of night, the Red Cross arrives and provides you with shelter, food and comfort, and then when you awaken in the morning you have a comfort kit that allows you to feel “human” once again).
